Timmons Fine Art Gallery

The Rich Timmons Gallery in Doylestown is run by a lovely couple, Rich and Julie Timmons. They have a gorgeous stone barn conversion now a fine art gallery and residence.

If you like history, stone architecture, covered bridges and very narrow winding roads with posted signs, as I do, it doesn't get much better than Bucks County.

GALLERY INTERIOR

My paintings were hung in the entrance and this wall, my favorite in the gallery.

Paintings by local artist Don Berk

Paintings by Jacksonville FL. artist C.T. Cummings

Sadly I didn't get a good shot of local artist Edie Wells Bristol's wonderful work, only this small peek on the back right wall.

Daisy is in her favorite spot...not to miss any of the comings and goings.

A weeks worth of Paint and canvas

The painting Gods where shining on me this week. My week was a bit over the top with two large canvases to my credit and one sold painting.....I also started using my palette knife again.

l do like the combination of brush and knife. Especially what happens to my surface texture when the paint is knocked down a bit. The knife is also a little more efficient getting paint on these large canvases. Plus I like to use it to remove areas that get fussy by scraping the area a bit, opening up the paintings possibilities again.....no question a useful tool.

A weeks worth of paint and canvas

My time is my own for awhile; it's nice, it's nice having time to focus exclusively on a single painting. This week started off with #811 a 48x72 horizontal canvas - got some big fancy frames to fill..:=)

#811 Day one 48x72 oil on linen (4-15-13)

#811 Day two 48x72 oil on linen (4-16-13)

#811 Day three 48x72 oil on linen (4-17-13)

#811 Day four 48x72 oil on linen (4-18-13)

#811 Day five - frame test 48x72 oil on linen (4-19-13)

Yesterday I thought the painting was finished, but!!

PROBLEM

The yellow Koi needs punctuation and a stronger connection to the pair of Koi on my right - I didn't like the flow between this group of Koi. It was really a connection problem from day three to day four.

 SOLUTION

FINAL PAINTING

#811 Day six - 48x72 oil on linen (4-20-13)

SOME DETAILS

When one move is all you get!
My lotus is ready for the final punctuation

Bingo!

After each painting day I like to study my days work in fading light, then again early the following morning. Before long, in my experience, the possibilities subtly expose themselves and the days game is on. I also like when the game is done and I get to sign it. LOL...a bit like a good book or film, regardless of the time, you don't want to put it down until finished.....the creative process is the same....at least for me.

SOLD

#550 Venice - The merging of Light & Water 72x60 oil on linen (7-5-11)

A weeks worth of paint and canvas

I took a few days off to recover from all my running around the last few weeks and think about my next painting adventure. I wasn't totally lazy, I did stretched some canvas and ordered more supplies from Jerry's. Bigger stretchers are in order these days....

This week was spent on one single statement piece, a 60x48 reverse version of the Student. The Student was a smaller 30x30 painted for the last OPA juried show....it didn't work for OPA but it did for me. I used the painting as a full page ad in American Art Collector which resulted in a new gallery connection, a sale, and the opportunity to do this painting.

#810-2a End of 2nd day 60x48 oil on linen (4-10-13)

#810-3a End of 3rd day 60x48 oil on linen (4-11-13)

#810-4a Frame test - end of 4th day oil on line (4-12-13)
#810 The Student Recital 60x48 oil on linen (4-13-13)

  Detail

I find dark paintings difficult to photograph. My final 5th day shot is in full sun. The blue for example is very saturated under intense sunlight or my studio LED lighting. But, under normal lighting it's actually much softer and perhaps a bit ethereal in feel....more like the detail. However it does tell you the background has colour and is not simply dark brown. Next week it will be varnished  before shipping to the gallery.......if I'm lucky, a new and better photo too.

A weeks worth of paint and canvas

Last week I logged a few thousand miles driving and very little on painting because of two back to back artist receptions. The 1st was a four person show at the Rich Timmons Gallery in Doylestown, PA. in Bucks County. The 2nd, a solo show at the Richard Stravitz Fine Art Gallery in Virginia Beach.

My (2) painting week started with #808. Its a downstream view from under River Road Bridge looking East towards the Delaware River. Originally I thought the structure was a covered bridge but after some research and Google satellite I discovered it's a 210 foot long aqueduct carrying the Delaware Canal over the Tohickon Creek at Point Pleasant, PA. and aptly called "Tohickon Creek Aqueduct". The aqueduct dates to1832 and was out of commission until restored in 2001.

My  photo was very dark as I was shooting directly into the overcast morning sun so I lighten it in Photoshop
Final reference enhanced a bit to show more detail

#808 Dawn in Bucks County  24x30 oil on linen (4-3-13)

My 2nd painting #809 was a study of the opposite view which I took the liberty of adding a sunset - reminds me of my James river.

A weeks worth of paint and canvas

I only had time for one painting this week #807 Koi & Lotus 60x48 - a replacement for one sold. Most of my week revolved around delivering and hanging paintings in galleries for (2) separate shows.

One trip I'm looking forward to is my visit to Bucks County over the weekend. Aside from delivering some new paintings to the Rich Timmons Gallery for a group show in Doylestown, PA., I want to scout the area for some new painting material for the gallery. Not living in the area, and as an outside artist, I'm at a disadvantage as opposed to a local artist. One of the ways to break the ice is paint some local subjects....if you will, a fresh view point
