Swimming in Paint #11 results

Friday's team quickly set up within minutes and started doing their own rendition of our single pony. Our pony was a very good model for pushing paint, molding and shaping and following light patterns.

20x20 DEMO

The demo did its job well, explaining lost and found edges - a visual so the team didn't have to rely on verbal descriptions. Building a surface with enough paint so it could be pushed and manipulated....... varied brushwork not over cooked or overworked.....molding and building colour to produce glow and keeping it clean at the same time. Keeping our palette clean, using all the paint in our scrap pile for background or to neutralize more saturated colours.  BTW, good way to use up old unwanted colours....make neutral tones dark or light - expand our scrap pile as needed.

And most important, to continually step back, look at whats on the canvas - never lies, always tells the truth and always gives clues about whats right or wrong and what to do next! Upside down works well to focus on shapes but nothing like a bit of distance to see the story emerging on a canvas!

GREAT WORKING SPACE! TEAM HAS ROOM TO SPREAD OUT. ARTISTS JUST HAVE LOTS OF STUFF!

IN A VERY PAINTERLY WAY

A STYLIZE VERSION - NICE JOB!

ADELE IS NOTHING BUT FUN..:=) An excellent Crossroads teacher too!

We'll all have a bit of homework left at days end. The 20x20 Centurion linen canvas worked well - good size for our subject and our limited time frame. Thank you Jerry's!!

Enjoy your day pushing paint!

  1. This class with Chuck was one of the best oil painting classes I've taken. It was quick, easy to follow and Chuck's gentle soul was perfect to nudge us through any tough moments. I highly recommend this paint along style class to anyone interested in oils.
