Black & White to Oil & Metal

First, there was a little bit of a senior moment on my last post (cyber 3)...... I inadvertently left off the references. Laughingly threw the whole concept out with the dishwasher!! One of those 2:00am realizations.....

With that in mind:=) I'm glad I put a fresh 40x36 gallery wrap on my easel yesterday......also glad I didn't forget why!

ATMOSPHERIC LANDSCAPES
OIL & METAL

These days I'm only using black & white reference for shapes (below). Sunday I used the same reference for my demo. The trees pictured is one of my favorite, Lombardy poplars.

The theme focus will be on the sun and atmosphere. My metal is Moon Gold, a very soft champagne colour available through my favorite art supply, Jerry's.

SIP - Cyber paint-along 3 (revised)

This week like last weeks exercise is a clean sky and glowing sun. Our sun below is center stage. All the colour information is in our sun reference. So the setting reference will always be black and white because its a supporting player, a moving target.....and should evolve with the painting. In other words be creative!

Moody, the transition between night and day, is more lyrical in nature and more often successful when its "soft and simple". I always opt for simple!

Atmospheric Mood "Soft and Simple"

SIP TEAM RESULTS

Simple black and white photo references in conjunction with a sunrise colour reference produces the sparkling results we see below.

We mix and match a variety of sun and grey scale tree references studying the sunrise and it's effects on the landscape. This challenge, besides converting a black and white tree reference to colour is also a lot about composition, depth, shadows and colour balance! Basically following the sunlight as it moves around and through the landscape and how it effects or modifies colour we normally see in daylight.
