Our painting this week has (2) major elements; a Koi and a single lily...with a few lily pads and a basic plain background. The idea will be to complete each element before moving to the next. Our background, the easiest part, left to last, will unite the whole composition in one fell swoop with a well deserved sign off!
We will also stretch a few canvases during lunch break
Download the references below - 5x7 photos will be provided as before.

Masonite with a few coats of gesso (sand with 320 between coats) is a
good inexpensive painting
surface. Home Depot sells it in smaller precut panels. NOTE: A very
light (not heavy) coat of clear spray lacquer does a great job sealing
the gesso.
Canvas can also be easily glued to Masonite or smooth 1/4" plywood panel with Gorilla white glue and a rolling pin.

I
used a fine woven linen with (2) light coats of oil primer. Jerry's Centurion double oil primed linen cannot be beat. The paint stays on top. The
weave is constant, smooth and tight. The paint grips the canvas and does
not slide about as it often does with heavier coatings that end up with
a slicker semi gloss surface. This canvas is well thought out and
available in a wide range of products to suit any need....and by
comparison CHEAP to any other out there!
Jerry's also has Centurion oil linen well priced already stretched......check it out.
