Our live model will keep the team busy Saturday. We'll do two (STUDY) paintings, a head study in the morning and a different pose after lunch capturing the overall essence of our model - not so much about details but the right proportions - painting light with colour SHAPES.
While we could end up with a masterpiece, this exercise is not about making a masterpiece. If it doesn't work, wipe it off, jump in again - always with energy!
Studies like these don't always require the normal stretched canvas we use in class - good painting surface YES!
Jerry's Centurion OP DLX Professional pads are one of the best alternative options on the market today. The same well priced stretched linen canvas we use but in pad form. The largest pad is 16x20 (10 sheets) - significantly less and perfect for studies like these!
This is short notice, so a good solution for Saturday. I often use a 1/4" smooth 24x24 plywood panel or in a pinch a piece of heavy cardboard as a back board to attach loose canvas with blue tape. (shown below).

Loose canvas will be available @ $5.00 each
Shaping and molding a
subject with your brush requires a bit more paint and medium to
make paint flow effortlessly. Handwriting is oddly important here,
as
is the right pen or brush to make it happen. Flowing expressive moves
are
key.......not tight uncontrolled jerky dibs and dabs! The reward is allowing
the subject to emerge from the background in a painterly fashion! Lots
of ways to do
this with lost and found edges. Perhaps the most fun part of painting
wet-in-wet.

oil primed linen canvas in various sizes will always be available.

There will also be a supply of Royal soft grip brushes (SG4500 Series) available at $2.50 each.
I
do encourage using a glass palette - old picture frame glass works with
a white sheet of paper and a cardboard backing or foam core with blue
taped edges to hold it all together.
Please try to have (1) Flexible palette knife. Preferably similar to the two on the left.
