Hello July! It's a party month, we get to celebrate the 4th tomorrow and later this month on the 21st at Crossroads bi-monthly open house. It also made sense to line up the "WOW" Awards with it. Going forward paintings will be selected from each team over a two month period.
My favorite part of coaching, is seeing the team grow, produce art able to be shared, art to delight the many art lovers that frequent Crossroads
bi-monthly opening, a celebration of art and artists.
The
Swimming-in-Paint walls are to inspire and show the team what is required to
make "Best wall" paintings. Paintings meant to sell, leave, and find
their own destiny. Seeing our work all dressed up and on the wall is priceless to our development as artists. When our art speaks to others, even better! This is how we find out.
GOOD PAINTINGS ALWAYS FIND WALLS TO HANG ON!
The art we make has to speak to others. When it does, our course is set in one direction or another.... all we have to do is move with it and enjoy the ride.
Always protect the value of your art, your galleries and those who cherish and collect your work.
COACHES MAY & JUNE TEAM
"WOW AWARDS"
E. LONGSTREET
Longstreet's, Displays 30x30 oil on linen June 2017
In Elizabeth's own words: "Showing all of these vibrant colors in a fan was a challenge
that I really wanted to tackle."
In Elizabeth's own words: "I love the brilliance that shines through the clouds and
reflects on the water. And every time my daughter sees this painting she
says "Hallelujah".
Longstreet's, Strutting 30x36 oil on linen June 2017
In Elizabeth's own words: "I was encouraged by Chuck to go beyond the conservative background on this painting. I feel it frees up the peacock
to stand alone."
Longstreet is the May & June featured artist for her stunning body of work over the last (2) months. Longstreet focused on two subjects this year. Atmosphere, water and birds, birds, as in Peacocks. Her last peacock (above) moved off the "Paint What You See Line" into creatively modifying her subject. This is the beginning step of a "Signature Look"!
Victoria Gross's Beneath a Violet Sky 24x24 oil on linen June 2017
Victoria is new to Swimming-in-Paint. She's a mom ready to make art again. Victoria has a fresh, slightly abstract approach to representational painting as seen above.
In Victoria's own words: "When I look at my paintings, I am caught by a certain quirkiness and vulnerability that seems to show itself on my canvas. I am not entirely comfortable with what I see and yet, find it hard to look away."

Terry Lacy's, Dappled Light.....City Life" 24x18 oil on linen June 2017
In Terry's own words: "On a recent trip to San Francisco, while walking along a California street, I noticed this lovely scene, and captured it on came. I am enchanted with the dappled light and shadows and the lilies beautifying their urban setting. Both warm and cool colours in the painting create a calming balance while mostly diagonal composition is intersected by a column of light adding interest and balance"

SUNDAY PAINTER, BARBARA BYRD
Barbara Byrd's Lilies & Koi
THE
"WOW PAINTINGS" will be on display in the Chuck Larivey gallery at Crossroads
through August. This month is special, because we have a bi-monthly opening
to celebrate on July21st from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Barbara is a Sunday Painter with Swimming-in-Paint. We've developed a little process where I show, via a quick mini demonstration, the visual, at the same time describing the what and why..... basically problem solving by Showing & Telling. Barbara picks up and tries it out on her own. It's continuing, which is showing real progress. Art should not be a serious struggle. It's much about fun as it is problem solving - as humans we are wired to do it...and we do it on a daily basis. A visual or a word often jump starts it.... a coaches job is to make that happen.
Stop by, take a peek or better yet give one a good wall
to hang around on.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
TO ALL THE MAY & JUNE TEAMS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!
