Artful Renovation (over-paint)

"Jump Start" was a crappy painting with few redeeming qualities that went south. As an artist, I had my share along the way. Typically better to move on quickly. But this is a big canvas to pack away or cart off to the burn pile.... So can it be fixed?

The paint was reasonably fresh enough to be scraped at the front end and during the whole process. My painting plan was simple, declutter and reorganize the over all painting. I also wanted to stay within the same weird colour range.......you might call it an "artful" renovation.

BASELINE

 END OF DAY 1

DETAILS
Scraping and over painting

Breaking up edges and fresh paint areas with a palette knife was extremely useful merging old movements with the new. Happy camper at days end!

Sleeping on it, the canvas still deserved more decluttering..

END OF DAY 2 - FINAL PAINTING
December 46x54 oil on  linen (12-3-17 canvas 1187)

DETAILS
This detail might require more thought!

Not my normal wet-in-wet thing. Actually don't care if it is. My favorite part is the colour movement in each of the detail crops shown throughout. A fun project worth spending a little time on.

Off to the next....another over-paint on a much larger canvas.
