SIP - February "Wow" review

Applying dynamic mood to a black-in-white reference can set up some serious headwinds because its all about creative problem solving.....merging two visuals on the fly (wet-in-wet).

Just Right! 24x24 oil on linen (2-24-18 canvas 2017)

Our nature is to paint what we see, as done in life painting or plein air. When using any photo reference its difficult to avoid copying. This year SIP is all about "Mood" and finding that elusive "creative edge". Strangely, a photo reference can be a valuable tool in this regard, especially when using multiple references to construct a new single expression. A simple beginning can be a black and white and a colour inspired reference like the studio demo above. Regardless of how approached, capturing the "essence" is the true challenge .

CONSTRUCTING A  FAVORITE VIEW
Susan Pavvola

We only need a title, frame and a wall

Susan would be an inspiration to any painting coach. She clearly enjoys life and all it has to offer including art and painting. Susan is a charter member of SIP, a former "WOW" wall winner whose work is also attracting collectors and finding new homes to hang around in. You could say we have gone down the learning path together.

 PAINTING-A-DAY MOM
Victoria Gross

AT HOME

INSPIRED  OUR FIRST SIP JR :=)))))

Victoria has a signature style. A style that stands out and is recognizable from others. Her paintings are happy, like the artist she is and they make others happy too.

A big congratulatory shout-out to Victoria who recently sold her first big painting (exhibited in the SIP Christmas show).

 STEADY  ON COURSE
Barbara Byrd

Barbara is a Sunday painter and a SIP charter member whose work is continuing to improve. Every Sunday without fail she picks up where she left off and continues on. Her strongest asset, focus! Finding the first right subject can take time.......here, time well spent! Now in her cross hairs, getting to know horses better! Why? Because Barbara, as a working professional, is working toward a new career in art.

A SIGNATURE STYLE IN THE MAKING
Terry Lacy

Terry is another charter member of SIP and a former "WOW" wall winner. Terry is closing out one career as a jewelry designer for one as an oil painter. Terry is a natural luminous painter. As a former jewelry designer, she knows to be successful you need a good artistic effort..... so her main focus has been working tirelessly on paint quality and subject selection.

HIS SERIOUS SIDE
"I can paint and draw. I believe this myself and a few other people say that they believe this too. But I'm not certain of whether it's true." Gustav Klimt
