I wish I had something to say

But I don't. I am kinda interested in playing around more with my halo idea used on "Precious White". I also like solid backgrounds in the Koi paintings below.

This one above hangs over my desk as a daily reminder why I liked this painting.... everything. Wish they were all like that. At that moment it was my best because it accomplished a personal goal! These are favorite works that make me happy. Sometimes they show up together like twins or triplets. Personal benchmark paintings resulting of a challenging learning curve. The good old fashion "raising the bar" to improve skills thing, not a result of lady luck!

Darn! Lady luck sounds like something a Vegas gambler might say..... I suppose an artist and a gambler are similar in that regard.... with one caveat, in both cases experience relies more on skill than chance!
 .

Another in my personal collection escaped once for a good cause and returned as I hoped it would. The refrigerator will have to be empty before it leaves again! However it is available as a Giclee..lol

Andy Warhol had a great quote about making art.
"Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if its good or bad. Whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art." Andy Warhol

A weekend seacape

Air and water is hard to beat. I sure do like messing with it. This one has a few birds as mile markers to increase the illusion of depth. I found if crashing waves are rendered rapidly the feel is more convincing, especially at a distance, close up, yikes! That's where pieces of paint and brush texture count. Something I’ll  always work on.

DISTANCE, DIMINISHED LIGHT & SPOT

A nice week to paint

Monday I started a 44x48 canvas about young ballet dancers called "Precious White". It seemed large compared to my recent binge on 24x24s.

MONDAY & TUESDAY

Thank goodness for studio lights - not much natural light today... only a grey day and lots of rain! That meant some last minute BRIGHT yellow was needed!

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday under diminished light, a spot exposed a sympathetic yellow ring that might be a useful design feature.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY
"Precious White" 44x48 oil on gallery wrap (3-23-18 canvas 1228)

"Precious White" has a touch of Moon Gold - also, my first pure white background. I had no clear idea where this was going until Wednesday when I saw that yellow halo framing a central figure.. Then it just all came together.

Ready to show off

Yikes! This week was jamb packed but last night, we got to unwind! I think the gallery looks pretty good. The teams work was intermix seamlessly with mine.

Freewheeling waves

Monday it snowed. The big flaky kind we might imagine snow should be. Actually it was a good time to clean up a couple of works done over the weekend during SIP.

DAYLIGHT MOON
Saturday 24x24 oil on linen (3-10-18 canvas1225)

CRASHING
Sunday 24x24 oil on linen (3-11-18 canvas 1226)

As a painter, the sea is a worthy subject to study, especially closeups like here. Perhaps inspired by Waugh is leading to a more detailed study of waves. The best way for me is continuing on with more "one-a-day" paintings like these through March. Laughingly, I'm going to have a sea of 24x24s by the time this year is over........pardon the pun!

We were originally only using the seashore as setting for atmosphere. However, discovering Waugh changed the SIP focus Sunday to waves.....a welcome change for the team and myself.

Time on steroids

I rather like this free-wheeler with the horses. This month will mark my 9th year as a full time artist. Time on steroids. WOW!

Saturday & Sunday 24x24 oil on linen (3-4-18 canvas 1222)

After nine years I still think this is the most fascinating career choice anyone could aspire to. One thing is certain, you'll never experience boredom if you do.

Gallery Change out

It's that time again! Friday night is open house at Crossroads. Over the next few days it will be musical chairs or paintings. Perhaps a few frame changes too.

 SIP "WOW" paintings are placed

Still more work to do -

I have two favorites

Wasn't Waugh a nice Google discovery? I went online later to find out if any were for sale. There was a lot of movement on Waugh 3 or 4 years ago. Many of these paintings were sold at very reasonable prices......missed opportunity. Hopefully his work will inspire a few to pickup the brush.

I WISH THIS ONE WAS ON MY WALL!

Moving on. This month I'll be freewheeling seascapes both at SIP and at home...... we'll see.

Fredrick Judd Waugh

Frederick Judd Waugh (September 13, 1861 -- September 10, 1940) was an American artist, primarily known as a marine artist. During World War I, he designed ship camouflage for the U.S. Navy, under the direction of Everett L. Warner.

Waugh's work requires no lofty words. One only has to study his paintings to understand his value. His lush brushwork is touchable, thick, perfect strokes of clean colour  Makes you want to pick up a brush and paint the sea!!
