The last canvas of 2015

Lately a series of dark rainy days has me relying heavily on studio lighting. The sun is something to take notice of when out in full force! My next canvas was set to be a 30" square but seemed too small for a rare bright sunny day. Instead I chose an almost square 44x48 linen wrap with a bit more working room.

The rain gods returned after the first session and continued through the end of the year. Just as well, the canvas reminded me of a similar day a few years ago at the Maymont Koi pond. The ice was starting to break up and a few of the residents moseyed up to catch the sunlight. So in the last few sessions I embraced that thought and cloud reflections became ice with sprinkles of gold leaf.

It's finally the last day of the month, time to select a few paintings for Boldbrush December contest and celebrate the New Year.....a bit momentous for canvas 1013 which claimed the dubious honor of being the last painting of 2015.

Happy New Year!!!
