Progressions 1, my new Alla prima sunrise series

I thought sharing my new sun series might be fun. The series prime goal is recreating 8x10 saturated colour progressions of my favorite sunrise from last week. That morning got the ball rolling with two paintings 698 & 699 (post 8/8/12)....Thursday after finishing up my painting project (704) I painted 705 and 706 and the following day 707, 708 & 709.

705 Sunrise 8x10 oil on linen (8-9-12)
706 Sunrise 8x10 oil on linen (8-9-12)
707 Sunrise 8x10 oil on linen (8-10-12)
The sun is right but the trees and foreground are not! When painting sometimes you simply move with it and that's what happened here....even so, I liked the results very much.

708 Sunrise 8x10 oil on linen (8-10-12)
Again the sun and the effect is right but the same thing happen here as in 707. Again I like the results:=)

This is where I think it changes and becomes a serious project!
On my 3rd day I had six - 8x10 studies of the sun's stages - albeit a bit spotty,  I had a bench mark going forward....

After reviewing my results and still enjoying the process, I decided to continue by filling in the gaps. Using my first one 698 as my reference guide I painted 709.

Last - 709 Sunrise 8x10 oil on linen (8-10-12)
First - 698 Sunrise 8x10 oil on linen (8-2-12)

I included the first in the series 698 as a comparison to the last one 709. I love the wonderful abstract qualities developing as I move along - I'm also using lots of paint too......giving the surface texture a soft translucent buttery look. It's quickly turning into a very sweet project well beyond my original expectations......can't wait for my next session.......progress:=)
